2022 Funky Picnic & TexMalt Smoke ‘Em Out Homebrew Competition

Here at Funky Picnic, we appreciate all styles of beer, especially those that are smoky! Because of that, we are hosting the first annual Smoke ‘Em Out smoked-beer-only homebrew competition, co-sponsored by TexMalt! All participants will receive up to 5 lbs of TexMalt Smoked Pale Malt as part of their entry fee. The competition will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place stylistic technical awards, as well as a Brewer’s Choice award that will be brewed on our pilot system and be placed on-tap at Funky Picnic!

Online Registration: On or Before August 28th, 2022

32A. Classic Style Smoked Beer (must declare Classic Style used)
32B. Specialty Smoked Beer (must describe Specialty style/ingredients/process used)

Entry Acceptance Rules:
Each entry will consist of two 12- to 22-oz capped bottles, corked bottles, or cans that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.

12-oz brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted. Swing top bottles will likewise be accepted as well as corked bottles and cans.

Bottles and cans will not be returned to contest entrants.

Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.

One entry per Classic or Historical Style allowed (for example, a participant may submit a Smoked Weissbier and Smoked American IPA, but a participant may not enter two Smoked American IPAs or two Lichtenhainers). Multiple entries are allowed for different beers in 32B. Specialty Smoked Beer.

Please temporarily attach (either with a rubber band or tape) a piece of paper with your name and beer style entered to each bottle upon drop-off at Funky Picnic.
